Pre-Revenue Operations Testing Recap: Getting Closer to Ride in 2025!
The last several weeks have been action-packed on the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension! The project officially entered the Pre-Revenue Operations (PRO) phase, a major milestone that marks the transition from construction to full system testing. This crucial period is all about fine-tuning the system, training operators, and ensuring the system is fully ready for opening day.
Multi-Modal Accessibility & Connectivity Testing
The first major PRO event was a two-part multi-modal test designed to check the new extension for accessibility and connectivity for all users.
Part 1: Accessibility Check
In partnership with Ability KC, KC Streetcar and Kansas City tested level boarding, ADA ramps, and crosswalk functionality to confirm accessibility across the new stops.
Part 2: Biking Integration
Working with BikeWalkKC, KC Streetcar and Kansas City focused on how well the streetcar connects with bike infrastructure at key stops, ensuring a smooth experience for people biking to and from the system.

Passenger Load Test
Next up: the project team simulated a full streetcar to test how it handles peak passenger loads. The KC Streetcar Constructors team assisted in filling the streetcar to check ride quality and system performance under full capacity. This test will be repeated as the project team continues to prepare for service.

Streetcar + Bus Interface at the Plaza Transit Center
The final big test so far involved coordination with RideKC at the Plaza Transit Center, designed as a key multi-modal hub. Streetcar and bus operators practiced vehicle movements and passenger flows to confirm a seamless experience for all riders when service begins.

Stay tuned for more updates as the project continues through the pre-revenue operations phase and gets closer to welcoming you aboard!
